Tarot is a wonderful tool for looking deeply into what is happening in one’s life. That is what it was originally designed for. In symbols, it reveals a map of the psyche, of one’s inner nature. This map can be immensely helpful in understanding what is happening in one’s life and in making plans for the future.
Traditionally, Tarot has been used for fortune telling. That is a limitation of its possibilities. The beings who created it were intending something more. In truth, it is an ancient tool for self-discovery and transformation. A quality Tarot reading promotes clarity of your situation and assists you with insight into who you truly are and the direction in which you are heading.
I loved to work on the Tarot Stall at the Fremantle Markets, which has been a feature of the markets for the last twelve years. It is amazing to see how powerful and transforming a 25 minute Tarot reading can be.
The people who come are often surprised at first that I am not going to tell them what is about to happen in their lives. Instead, the process enables them to understand their own inner being. This deep seeing of what is going on inside is the only thing that is going to stop us from repeating the mistakes of the past and going around in circles. In the end, clients are amazed to discover to what extent seeing into their actions in the present will be able to unfold something new and creative in their future.
The basic art of Tarot is to fall in tune with the energy of the person, to fall in tune so deeply that his unconscious, her unconscious, starts revealing itself to you.
Through the Tarot cards one is simply showing the tendencies, the possibilities; these are not certainties. If you say that something is going to happen, you can help it to happen, because then it seems certain. Rather, the aim is to help the person to become more aware of past patterns and to leave them behind. It is not to enable the past to be repeated more smoothly. Transformation will come when this new awareness gives room for new ways of being to arise.
In the present time, the creation of the Osho Zen Tarot has added the perspective of an enlightened master. His insights are essential to my understanding of Tarot and I love to use this deck. When combined with older decks, it offers a new richness to the experience of a reading.
You can still have a reading with my good friends at the Tarot stall at the Fremantle Markets, Perth, or with me in Denmark, Western Australia (see How to book).
